Setting Up the Facebook Conversions API

The Facebook Conversions API (previously known as Facebook Server-Side API) is a tool from Facebook, designed to share essential web events or customer actions. Unlike traditional methods that rely on the customer's browser, this tool sends information directly from your servers to Facebook.

Working in tandem with your Facebook Pixel, the Conversions API enhances the efficacy and measurement of your Facebook advertising campaigns, without needing to use browser-based tools like cookies.

As consumer privacy laws tighten and third-party trackers become less reliable due to ad blockers and privacy settings, the need for alternative tracking methods grows. The Conversions API offers a solution to these challenges, providing essential data for maintaining effective social media marketing campaigns.

Activating the Facebook Conversions API is strongly advised. Here's how you can set it up:

  1. Get an Access Token: Visit your Facebook Pixel settings and scroll to the Conversions API section. Under "set up manually," either click "Get Started" or "Generate Access Token."
  2. Copy the Token: Once generated, copy the token.
  3. Paste It in Your Website Settings: Paste the copied token into the appropriate field in your website settings.
  4. Save and Confirm: Save the Facebook settings, and the setup is complete! Events will automatically be reported from this point on.

Please note that it takes around 20 minutes for events triggered on your website to appear in your pixel stats. The PageView event is only reported via browser-side tools, not through the Conversions API (server-side).
