Combining First and Last Names for Easy Import into Patient Base
Are you looking to streamline the process of importing first and last names into Patient Base? In this guide, we'll walk you through a simple method to merge first and last names in your Excel or Google Sheets, making the import process smoother and more efficient.
NOTE: Our system will automation split the first and last name when using personalization tags for emails and webpages. Example: Hello {first_name}, will pull the first name from the full contact name.
Why Combine First and Last Names?
Patient Base utilizes a single name field, making it convenient for you to input full names without the need to separate them into first and last names individually. This unified approach simplifies data entry for opt-ins.
Importing Full Names into Patient Base
However, when importing data into Patient Base, it's crucial to provide the full name as a single entry. If your data is in separate first and last name columns, you'll need to combine them before the import.
Step-by-Step Guide
- Open Your Spreadsheet: Whether you're using Excel or Google Sheets, open the spreadsheet containing the first and last name columns you wish to merge.
- Insert a New Column: Before the first name column, insert a new column where you'll create the combined full name.
- Label the New Column: In the newly inserted column, label the header as "Full Name."
- Apply the Formula: In the first cell under the "Full Name" header, type the formula:
=A2&" "&B2
. Here,A2
refers to the cell containing the first name, andB2
refers to the cell containing the last name. The&
operator concatenates the two values with a space in between. - Autofill the Formula: Once you have the formula in the first cell, you can autofill it down the column to automatically combine the names for all entries.
- Upload to Patient Base: Save your spreadsheet after the full names are combined. When you're ready to import this data into Patient Base, make sure to map the combined full name column to the appropriate name field during the import process.
Additional Tips:
- If your spreadsheet contains more data columns, don't worry. Patient Base will only use the combined full name column during import, and the rest of your data will remain intact.
- If you encounter any difficulties during the import process or have further questions, don't hesitate to reach out to the Patient Base support team. They're always ready to assist and ensure a smooth import experience.
By following these steps, you'll effectively merge first and last names into a single column, ensuring a hassle-free import into Patient Base.
